Letter from SLL 2010 President GETTING INVOLVED
Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Duane Blaschke and I was recently elected President of the Sealy Little League. I accepted the nomination knowing how important it is to keep the League active for both our boys and girls in the community. My wife Sandy and I have two kids that are currently in the League. We are determined to see that baseball and softball stay in our community so that both our kids and your kids will have this League to enjoy for many years to come. Sandy and I grew up in Sealy and want our kids to enjoy growing up in our fine community, as we did. Many years ago, I too enjoyed the benefits of what the Sealy Little League had to offer. I remember like it was yesterday, Blue Schroeder telling me to not miss the pitcher’s throw because he didn’t want to get hit as he umpired the game. There are many other memories that I cherish from those days and hope that our kids will enjoy making their own wonderful memories at the fields. This can certainly be accomplished, but I will need your help this year by assisting the board, the coaches, and each team by being there for one another. With your support, we can make certain that we are giving our kids exactly what they deserve, which is to teach them about the excitement, camaraderie, and joy of this wonderful game. Recently, the game seems to have lost some of its luster due to recent findings of steroid use and the high salaries of the athletes, making it nearly impossible to attend a game due to the high cost at the ticket booth or concessions. This makes it even more imperative that we teach our kids how great this game is in its purest form. I hope you will choose to be a part of this successful upcoming year for our boys and girls by being a coach, volunteer, or attending the games. By offering your support to those taking the time to teach our children about this great classic game, you are supporting our children. I extend my gratitude to the exiting board members for their many hours of service and dedication to the Sealy Little League. We are truly indebted to you for keeping the League going. I would also like to thank all of the newly elected members that accepted the vacancies of our past board. These members will be instrumental this year in making this a great season for our kids. If there are any ideas or suggestions that will help the board to accomplish this task, let us know so that your ideas can be discussed at the monthly meetings. The Sealy Little League has a wonderful website that you can visit for information regarding upcoming events, scheduling, or to post a comment. I am very excited about the coming year and look forward to meeting you out at the fields. Get ready to “PLAY BALL”!
Duane Blaschke

Throw your hat in the ring and become a SLL Board member! Members of the Sealy Little League Board preside over the needs of the league for a term of one year. Each board member volunteers their personal time to ensure fields are maintained, uniforms are purchased, vendors are managed, communications are published, registration is taken care of, rules are established, teams are created, managers and coaches are selected, and sponsorships are secured. The board formally meets each month throughout the year, and informally in subcommittees as needed.
Each year, as participants at Sealy Little League, you elect a new Board of Directors to oversee the League. New members of the Board will be voted on in October. If you are interested in adding your name to the ballot, please email SLL Information Officer at mailto:chasecallie@gmail.com. Listed below are the different positions that are on the Board of Directors. If you need additional information about responsibilities and duties associated with any particular position you can contact board member currently serving that position or
http://www.littleleague.org/leagueofficers/BODRoles.htm
We look forward to seeing new volunteers “step up to the plate” and help make our League one of the best around.

If that sounds too daunting of a task, simply volunteer to help with board activities. There is plenty to do in this all-volunteer league. The kids depend on all parents for a quality baseball experience, and the board (volunteer parents!) can use your help.
Sealy Little League Board Meetings are open to the public. Only board members may vote, but all in attendance may speak. If you want input into the Sealy Little League, please attend!

SLL mourns the loss of one player and wishes another a speedy return If you drive by BP&W Park you can’t help but notice there is Yellow Ribbons on the Fence and a Memorial instead of the kids running bases and the sound of a ball game. That’s because Sealy Little League lost a former player and current player, while they wish the speedy return of another.
Friday night a Multi car crash took the lives of four while injuring two others. SLL Softball Major Riptide lost fellow player Adriana Boggon along with her Mother Barbara and Brother Jackson.
Vanessa Ortega a member of the Major Thunder was injured in the wreck.
All Softball and T-ball games have been canceled until Monday. Major, Minor and Pee Wee Baseball will return Thursday.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Schmidt Funeral Home in Bellville.
The John Boggan Family Benefit account has been established @ Citizens State Bank in Sealy. John Boggan is the Husband to Barbara and father to Jackson and Adriana.

Player Evaluations (Formerly Player Tryouts) As I drive by the field I see parents throwing balls to young players, hitting them deep to their kids in the outfield. This can only mean one thing. It’s almost time to try-out for your 2009 team. Although I like the word Evaluations when talking about this, why?
I hear it every year, "What if my kid doesn't get drafted?” I always answer with a simple "every kid gets drafted" and then I hear "Oh, you said he had to try-out".
It’s not really a tryout it’s a chance for Coaches to do player evaluations so they can put your child on teams according their skill level.
Be sure and check out our calendar so you can find out your child’s time to be at the field.

Opening Day in big-boy/girl pants Major League Baseball’s Opening Day is this week with the games you can hear the tune “Take me out to the ballgame, take me out to the crowd...”
Buy all the peanuts and Cracker Jacks you want, but you’d be hard-pressed to find more fun than with the Sealy Little Leaguers, who have thrown out their own opening pitch.
“I think the kids, the parents, the coaches, the grandparents — especially the grandparents — enjoy it” said Buddy George VP of Baseball for the League “The parents enjoy it, but the grandparents really enjoy it.”
And while the starting average age of these future Major Leaguers is about 5 years old, simply watching a single game demonstrates that their enthusiasm extends from their cinched up socks to the top of their tiny ball caps.
